Hotel overview

Set within the forested slopes of Mount Rainier National Park, this seasonal hotel blends rustic charm and history. Housed in a lodge dating back to 1916, with an annex from 1920, the property offers a cozy retreat for outdoor enthusiasts and history lovers alike. Guests arrive to simple rooms that emphasize comfort over luxury, some featuring mountain views and shared bathroom facilities. Although Wi-Fi is not available, the setting encourages disconnection and exploration.

Dining is available on-site at Tatoosh Cafe, offering basic but warm meals after days spent hiking or snowshoeing on Paradise trails. The hotel’s convenient access to iconic landmarks like Myrtle Falls and Mount Rainier itself allows for immersive nature experiences just steps outside the door. Walkers will enjoy the easy connection to snowshoe trails and mountain views, although parking is limited and rustic conditions prevail.

Service is attentive despite the modest facilities, creating an authentic atmosphere reminiscent of early 20th century mountain hospitality. The absence of some modern amenities, such as air conditioning and a fitness center, reinforces its nature-focused appeal. Travelers should anticipate small rooms and shared bathrooms but can expect spectacular surroundings and a unique historic ambiance.

Shared Bathroom No Wi-Fi Tiny Rooms Mountain Views Trail Access Historic Building

“Not much soundproofing in the hotel. Bathrooms are tiny. But the views and location are spectacular. The inn restaurant dinner food seems prepared in advance and kept warm. Many dishes were dry or overcooked. The salads are the best.”

“I can't say I got the full experience of the Paradise Inn, but the part I did, I loved. When we arrived we easily found parking, although the ascent up the mountain was treacherous while it was snowing. We started walking to the entrance but took a detour and walked around the building. We didn't pay much attention to it because it felt like a blizzard was hurting at us. Once we got into the restaurant we were seated and treated to excellent service. All of our food was satisfactory except for the diet Pepsi which we agreed tasted off. All things considered, Paradise inn is a wonderful place with wonderful people.”

“The main lodge lobby is a great place to hang out, especially if William H. Powell (of Gainesville, Florida) is in residence playing the piano (a broad mixture of classical and jazz, all done from memory!). As others have noted, the rooms are tiny. We had a two-bedroom room in which the rooms really weren't big enough to hold a family of four and associated suitcases (we unpacked a bit and then moved suitcases back into the car). Make sure to bring hiking poles or ski poles if you're there in June because the snow wasn't melted for us and walking near the inn could be treacherous. The restaurant was only half full at dinner, but the staff had trouble getting orders out in a timely or correct fashion. The idea of preserving how things were done in the early 20th century perhaps should be abandoned given the realities of the current American labor market. Although there is no WiFi (nobody has heard of Starlink?), the mobile data service is excellent for about a 1-mile radius from the hotel. I got 1.5 Gbits download and 88 Mbits upload on the mobile data network while sitting in the hotel.”

“Tiny rooms, great staff (especially Riddle) beautiful atmosphere. The manager took her time helping us get checked in with our unique reservation situation. She was patient and focused in us until our situation was resolved. The dining staff were also attentive and kind. Parking stinks but that is to be expected at this location.”
